Race Recap

The excitement was in the air as the Pro Truck Nationals (PTN) Fast Friday Nights series kicked off at West Michigan Sand Dragway in Mears, MI over Friday night of Memorial Day Weekend. The main event of Friday night’s action would be the always exciting 3.5 Index class. Blowers, Turbos, and lots of Nitrous were all represented well as racers vied for a great start to the season. Twelve of Michigan’s best started off in round one, but when it came down to the final round it would be Hudsonville, MI’s Jay Poortenga in the "Drag Nasty" Funny Jeep facing off with hometown hero Bob Ramlow in the "Strictly Business" Altered. This race would belong to Jay as he scored his first PTN 3.5 Index class win in a 3.58 to 3.64 decision.

Mears, MI -- The Pro Truck Nationals (PTN) 300’ Sand Drag Racing Series is kicking off its 2013 Fast Friday Nights Series on Memorial Day Weekend at West Michigan Sand Dragway in Mears, MI. Championships are on the line in the PTN 3.5 Index and 3.95 Index Pro ATV categories. Action will kick off on Friday night with those two headlining classes as well as the Ironman Open Bracket class and the first round of Qualifying for the WMSD/PTN Top Fuel Revolution class. Saturday will see a full slate of local classes along with eliminations in the WMSD/PTN Top Fuel Revolution category as the quickest and fastest racers in Michigan battle it out at over 100MPH.

Pro Truck Nationals (PTN) is excited to announce the beginnings of a great 2013 race schedule. The first season under management of new owner Buddy Hammett, and primary sponsor Mid-West Coatings, will include the exciting new PTN Fast Fridays series. The PTN Fast Fridays series will consist of four Friday night shows at West Michigan Sand Dragway in Mears, MI. The headline class will be the PTN 3.5 Index category. The new PTN 3.95 Index Pro ATV will also join PTN 3.5 Index as a points bearing category. An Ironman Sportsman Car category will join the other two classes for each PTN Fast Fridays show. Dates for the PTN Fast Fridays series will be May 24, July 5, July 26, and August 30. Also, announced at this time is PTN Championship Weekend 2013, which will take place at West Michigan Sand Dragway on July 19-20. The Pro Truck Nationals (PTN) organization has been purchased by Michigan racer, Buddy Hammett. Buddy has taken over operations under the PTN name, effective immediately. Business demands made it impossible for PTN Founder & Principal Rich Simon to continue producing the highest quality events on sand. Rich wishes the new ownership all the best as they continue into the future. Buddy has plans to return PTN to a traveling series down the road, and will be announcing plans for the 2013 race season shortly. Pro Truck Nationals (PTN) decided to concentrate a majority of their efforts on a huge race, and the results is PTN Championship Weekend 2012 that took place at Little Sandy Raceway in early October. A huge racer count nearing 200 showed up from all across the Midwest to compete at the track in Grayson, KY. PTN decided to use a unique format to crown a 2012 Pro Truck champion over the two nights of racing action. Pro Truck racers accumulated points over the course of action in Friday night’s Pro Shootout (Pro Truck vs. The World) as well as Saturday’s normal Pro Truck category. This led to a thrilling championship battle that few who were in attendance will forget.
